Lochie Armstrong wins junior national triathlon title
LOCHIE Armstrong is the Fraser Coast's newest national champion.
The Xavier College student remarkably led from start to finish to claim the junior male title at the School Sport Australia 19 and Under Triathlon Championships in Hervey Bay yesterday.
Coached by long-term Hervey Bay coach and event co-convener Brian Harrington, Armstrong made it look as easy as he powered away from his closest competitors.
Not only did the 14-year-old hammer his strengths - the swim and bike legs were near-perfect - but he turned the run from his weakest link to the cherry on top of his championship pie.
"At states I had the same swim and ride but I had to work really hard on my run over the last two months and that's what I was most focussed on," Armstrong said.
Armstrong's triumph is the eighth national schools title to be won by a Fraser Coast athlete.
