How your old wedding dress can make you money

PICKING the perfect dress for your wedding is now easier for brides-to-be reluctant to fork out top dollar for a gown they will only wear once.

A new business, opening on the Gold Coast next month, is giving brides an opportunity to hire a beautiful dress for a fraction of the price.

Luxe Bridal Hire is the brainchild of Ayla Schepisi and Rhianon Halfpenny.

"Instead of outlaying tens of thousands of dollars to get dresses for stock, we're getting brides who have been married, and their dresses are sitting in the closet doing nothing, to put them in our store and make some money off it," Ms Schepisi said.

"We're still finalising the numbers, but dress owners will receive around 50 per cent of the profit."

"There are so many people interested already," Rhianon said.

"And we're offering the full bridal-store experience, champagne, space for the bridal party to come - make a day of it.

"Ladies come and see us, hopefully find the perfect dress to wear it on their special day and simply send it back to us. We take care of the return packaging, dry-cleaning and any seamstress costs in house.

"For example, we already have a Mia Silano dress (pictured) that we've worked out will cost brides about $400-$500 which includes the veil. That's a dress easily retailing at $2400, plus $300 for the veil."

The pair are still looking for dresses to stock, ensuring a strong range of beautiful, stylish dresses of all designs, shapes and sizes.

"We're both pretty good with fashion, and we've been doing a lot of research. Always having dresses trending and popular.

"We will have stock constantly changing as we go along, we're looking for classic, unique, custom made, common and popular designers.

"The main thing is, brides can have their dream dress, for a fraction of the price.

"And every piece will be covered by insurance, for security, if something major happens."

Luxe Bridal Hire will open in Ashmore on June 22.
