Maddern satisfied with pathology services on day of closure
ON THE last day of the pathology unit's operation at Maryborough Base Hospital, MP Anne Maddern says she is satisfied services won't suffer.
"After my consultations with the minister and senior management of the hospital, I am satisfied that processes to ensure timely services are in place, and this includes a monitoring process," she said.
"However, I urge the community to also monitor the services and if they consider the services inappropriate to contact either the CEO of the hospital or myself."
The proposal to close the unit, with the loss of six jobs, was announced earlier this year and outraged residents of Maryborough, many of whom voted for Ms Maddern after she campaigned on a platform of retaining or improving services in the Heritage City.
Ms Maddern said today's closure was disappointing, but that "...the focus must be on the provision of appropriate and timely pathology services to the residents who use the Maryborough Hospital".
