Majority of online voters want bird paintings on bus stops

ARTIST Alan Peebles has found support for his bus stop bird paintings with 61% of the 142 people who voted in the Chronicle's online poll wanting to see his artwork installed on the new bus shelters.

Mr Peebles created more than 100 bird paintings for bus stops around Hervey Bay years ago but as new disability-friendly shelters were erected in April, they were removed.

The council said it planned to move the paintings to rural areas but Mr Peebles attached some to the new bus shelters to show how easily they could be installed.

They were removed by the council with Mayor Gerard O'Connell discouraging anyone from tampering with council property.
