Cyclone Marcia closes colleges around the Fraser Coast

FRASER Coast Anglican College has decided to close its doors on Friday as Cyclone Marcia approaches.

A statement from the school asked parents to make arrangements to keep their children home as there would be no provision for students to go to school.

"Information acquired from the disaster management team both here in Hervey Bay and Bundaberg, BoM information, coupled with our experience with the college campus have all been carefully considered in making this decision," FCAC said in the statement.

St Mary's Catholic Primary School posted a notice on its Facebook page indicating that school would not operate as usual because of the severe weather conditions.

But the school would remain open and operate with a skeleton staff for those able to attend.

The Chronicle contacted Xavier Catholic College to ask about potential school closures.

A spokeswoman said the school wasn't expecting to close but that could change if conditions worsened.

TAFE Queensland East Coast posted to the Chronicle's Facebook page that it had made a decision to close the Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, and Gympie campuses on Friday as student and staff safety was paramount.
