Maryborough Netball is ahead of the game

NETBALL: A full committee and early planning for the 2019's representative players has Maryborough Netball Association on the front foot.

Led by new president Sam Mackay, MNA last night held the first rep player information session, where plans to triple the Heritage City's representative presence at the State Age Carnival were detailed.

Mackay told the Chronicle a late start to the planning for meant MNA sent just the one team to the hugely popular carnival this year, but the association's early push - and overwhelming response to calls for volunteers ahead of the AGM - meant plans were well advanced for three teams to represent Maryborough.

She said MNA would instigate a squad-first mentality, where a 15-strong cohort of talented netballers could start training in the summer months before final teams were selected across three age groups.

"We want to get a squad together - we won't be selecting teams,” she said. "We want people to come along, and if they read about it later, get in touch with us as we want to put those squads together of about 15 girls.

"There's still time, but we want to get into it straight away and make sure we've got a good base to build from.”
