Mayors to talk to Warren Truss about telco blackspots

WIDE Bay Burnett region mayors will meet Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss this week to talk about telecommunication blackspots in the area.

Wide Bay Burnett Regional Organisation of Councils chair and Bundaberg Mayor Mal Forman said it was time for better communication.

The group commissioned an independent testing of more than 2682km of the Wide Bay Burnett this year.

The testing found many important roads and areas in the region were without coverage.

"If motorists had a breakdown, or there was a major accident, it would take that much longer to get help to these locations," he said.

"Better mobile phone coverage to these areas could help to save lives."

The WBBROC mayors agreed to 10 key priorities in the region that must be addressed, as well as individual councils working towards other more local priorities.
