M’boro industrial estate approved

AN INDUSTRIAL estate fronting the Bruce Hwy that's expected to bring industries and jobs to the Fraser Coast has been approved.

The 11-lot Maryborough Industrial Estate will be built in four stages across the road from north of the Maryborough Showgrounds.

Mayor Gerard O'Connell said the site's location was the biggest drawcard and he hoped the approval would bring business to the Fraser Coast.

"This is a key priority project of the Fraser Coast council," he said. "This will be a large block industrial estate suitable for high impact industries.

"I'm now going to work in partnership with FCO to get out and promote this as an opportunity and attract some new business if I can."

The application will also be complementary to a plan for a transport hub to be built in the region.

Prior to the State Election in January, Maryborough MP Bruce Saunders pledged to push for Maryborough to become a hub for everything transport-related.

Mr Saunders said the council's industrial park would work with his plans to bring a hub to the region.

"It'll be good for bringing jobs to Maryborough," Mr Saunders said. "We're hoping to work the Integrated Transport Precinct in with that. Everything from road safety to manufacturing in large sheds - right on the Bruce Hwy."

The four stages of the Maryborough Industrial Estate are expected to be completed by 2031. Lot sizes will range from 1.63ha to 4.8ha.

The Fraser Coast Regional Council unanimously approved the development at their meeting on Wednesday.
