Fight for second stage Duncan Chapman Memorial funding
MEMBER for Maryborough Bruce Saunders is fighting to secure funding for the second stage of the Duncan Chapman Memorial.
The first stage, a statue of Duncan Chapman, who was the first man ashore at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915, was completed the week before the 100th commemoration of Anzac Day.

Mr Saunders said he had promised the Duncan Chapman Appeal Committee "120% support" and had taken on board the invitation of Mayor Gerard O'Connell for the State and Federal Governments to match Fraser Coast Council in financial commitments.
Nancy Bates, president of the Duncan Chapman Memorial Committee, estimated the second stage would cost about $3 million to build and would have special effects and educational elements.
Mrs Bates hoped all three levels of government would get behind the project.
She said she was waiting to hear back about funding applications that had been made before a clear idea could be given about time frames for the second stage of the memorial.
