MKR duo plan restaurant expansion, cookbooks and more

MY KITCHEN Rules may be finished for another season but last year's winners, Dan and Steph Mulheron are keeping busy on the back of their success with plans to expand their popular Hervey Bay restaurant, write a cookbook or two - and their line of sausages is hitting supermarket shelves as well.

"We have plans of extending the place microbrewery style," Steph said.

"Basically it would be brewing like ciders and beers and stuff, we want to go down that track."

"We're also working on a sausage range to be introduced in Australian supermarkets."

"We've invested in logos and packaging and recipes and trialling them in 20-ton lots. As soon as they say yes, we're ready to go."

All such plans however are still in the works with upstairs extensions set for later in the year.

"We don't want to give too much away," said Steph.

If that wasn't enough, the celebrity chef couple are also busy preparing the first of two cookbooks which will hit the shelves in October.

"It's going to be called Eat at Home with Dan and Steph." Steph said.

"It's very home-style recipes that my mum used to cook that have been handed down, as well as things that Dan's mum and nan used to cook."

"We just want to bring all that back, everything from silversides to date loafs, all nice traditional recipes with our little twist on it."

One of the best parts of the book, Steph says, is that it is a collaborative effort from people in the local community.

"Instead of going to Sydney to do it we've got a great team of local talent including local photographers and stylists to make this happen."

The book will be released on October 1 and for now it is at the stage of photographing 45 of the 85 recipes that will be included in the book.
