More than $77,000 in grants handed to community

MORE than 20 community organisations and events have been presented with a total of more than $77,000 in grants by the Fraser Coast Regional Council.

Councillor Darren Everard said the council presented 23 groups with grants under Round Two of the Community Grants Scheme and Community Events Scheme at a function in Maryborough.

The grants include:

  • $5000 to establish Parkrun Maryborough
  • $4690 for the Riding for the Disabled Association of Maryborough to replace fencing
  • $5000 for the Hervey Bay Croquet and Mallet Sport Club to install lighting
  • $5000 to the Burrum and District Heritage Society to build a storage shed for a restored mine loco and two small passenger carriages

He said community events grants included $1000 each for the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Sandy Straits to help stage the Boonooroo Fishing Competition and Bauple District Recreation grounds Association to help stage the Bauple Nut Bash.

More than $3300 of in-kind support was allocated to the Maryborough Arts Society Annual Art Festival Exhibition and $2500 for the Tiaro and District Landcare Group to stage a Farming Lifestyle Field Day.

Cr Everard said Council was proud to be able to give back to the community.

"These types of events make are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike and are part of the fabric of the Fraser Coast community," he said.
