'Most useless item ever made'? Don't tell this dog
THEY'VE made the list of one of the "most useless items ever made", but they are proving to be a lifesaver for this pooch.
Lucy, the 11-year-old bull arab-cross rescue dog, was suffering from sunburn that affected her eyes.
Her carer, Judy Langford went in search of a solution and found a range of sunglasses specifically designed for dogs, called Doggles.
"I mentioned it to a friend who works at the (animal) refuge that Lucy's eyes were getting sunburnt and she walked behind me in my shadow," Ms Langford said.
"She went looking for a hat for her, but couldn't find one. She kept looking on the internet and found the Doggles."
A pair was ordered and now Lucy is officially one of the cool cats when she walks around Coolum Beach.
But don't tell Lucy. She doesn't like them.
"She is not keen on them," Ms Langford said.
Would you consider buying "Doggles" for your dog?
This poll ended on 26 July 2017.
Yes, if the dog needed them.
No, they aren't necessary and look ridiculous.
I would, but my dog would never wear them.
This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.
"She won't wear them when she sits outside and she comes and looks at me as if to say 'why have I got these on?'
"She will wear them on the beach, but if someone laughs at her, or mentions them, she wants to take them.
Doggles were invented by Californians Roni and Ken Di Lullo who noticed her border collie, Midknight, was squinting in the sunlight in 1997.
She retrofitted some sports goggles and the idea behind Doggles was born.
What few would have predicted was that within years it would become a multi-million dollar industry selling to over 4,500 stores across the world.
In 2009, Doggles made the Daily Mail's list of the "most useless items ever invented",.
Then, in 2014, they made MSN's list of "10 ideas that shouldn't have worked, but made millions".
But despite the negatives, Doggles continue to sell worldwide and were available on eBay for around $45.
