MP has fun with the kids at playground opening

IT'S not everyday your state MP gets caught in a kid's playground, stuffing himself with cake, with a smile across his face.

But that happened to Member for Hervey Bay Ted Sorensen at the Goodstart Early Learning Centre new playground opening.

"I did (enjoy the playground) and the kids enjoyed the cake," Mr Sorensen told the Chronicle with a laugh.

"It's quite a good setting for the kids now, a natural setting, with real grass and plants, a mud pit, a sand pit and a little garden so they can teach the kids where vegetables come from."

Mr Sorensen said a Federal and State Government grant funded $90,000 for the upgrades.

Goodstart Queensland state manager Lesley Jones said the outdoor space would allow teachers to create new learning programs.

"We are grateful for funding that allowed us to undertake this project," Ms Jones said.

It would ensure children had the best start to school life, she said.
