A HERVEY Bay single mother hopes the new cycling laws will stop her frequent run-ins with aggressive drivers.
Ruth Hillman-Booth uses her bike to commute around the bay with her two-year-old son Ethan.
Ms Hillman-Booth said she's been the victim of abuse from impatient drivers.
"It's intimidating bullying and harassment," she said.
"The thing that annoys me is bikes are legitimately allowed on the road."
She hopes the new State Government law will improve the safety for riders.
From January 1, motorists must leave 1m of space while overtaking a cyclist when travelling under 60kmh, and 1.5m when travelling more than 60kmh.
Despite the common incidents, she said drivers were usually courteous.
"The vast majority of motorists are friendly," Ms Hillman-Booth said.
