NAMED: Arrest made over Bay bottle shop robbery

A 19-YEAR-OLD man has been charged over the recent robbery of an Eli Waters bottle shop as well as a spate of other offences.

Kevin Floyd Ashley Phineasa is accused of going on a month-long crime spree from Kingaroy to Hervey Bay, breaking into homes and stealing cars.

Police allege he broke into houses at night-time while residents were inside to steal small items including car keys.

The Kingaroy man would allegedly leave cars stranded before stealing another one.

He fronted Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Wednesday on 14 charges including five house burglaries, five unlawful use of vehicles, two break and enter premises and fraud-related matters.

His arrest comes a week after CCTV footage was released of two men smashing the glass doors at the front of the BWS on Ibis Blvd, stealing alcohol and fleeing in a dark-coloured car which had been stolen from a Dundowran Beach family.

Three of the targeted homes were in the Hervey Bay region and two in the Kingaroy region.

Maryborough Crime Investigation Branch acting officer in charge Detective Senior Sergeant David Harbison said most of the houses broken into were unlocked at the time.

The recovered cars have been returned to their owners.

Snr Sgt Harbison said police were working to arrest another person over the BWS robbery.

No bail application was made for Mr Phineasa during his court appearance and he will remain in custody.

His charges will be mentioned in court again on February 21.
