NBN Co responds to Bauple tower fears

AS BAUPLE residents speak out about how the planned National Broadband Network will affect the area, NBN Co has issued a response to address community concerns.

Bauple resident Anni Weise has urged community members to attend a public meeting with NBN Co on September 2 from 3pm to 6pm at the Bauple Band Hall, following concerns the service will be an eyesore and a health risk to locals.

In a response, Grant Thomas, of NBN Co, has refuted the claims saying equipment falls well within Australian safety standards.

"NBN Co's fixed wireless equipment falls well within Australian safety standards set by Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency, which are based on the international standards recommended by the World Health Organisation," he said.

In terms of resident concerns that the looming towers will decrease property value, Mr Thomas said property valuation was an extremely complex issue.

"Since the mid-1990s, thousands of telecommunications facilities have been installed throughout Australia, and property values have continued to increase," he said.
