New book set to help kids clean up their act

STUDENTS at Hervey Bay Special School were treated to a reading yesterday of a new children's book designed to educate kids on how to care for their local environment.

Read aloud by Councillor Robert Garland, Fishing Tales is aimed at ages 5 to 7 and was created as part of the Fraser Coast Council's submission for this year's Tidy Town competition.

Authors Lynda Downing and Lincoln Bertoli of the FCC corporate communications division said they hoped the book, which featured illustrations by local artist Nicole McBride, would teach children from a young age how to care for the environment.

"Basically the book focuses on litter prevention in our waterways," Ms Downing said.

The book has been adopted by a printing partner and is now being distributed to schools across the Fraser Coast.
