New boss for St Stephen's Hospital
ST STEPHEN'S Hospital has a new general manager with Deb Boyd now in the position, after Leanne Tones left suddenly two months ago.
While Mrs Boyd, who began work on July 2, declined to comment on Ms Tones' departure, she said she is eager and excited to take on the challenging role.
"I don't feel pressured at all," Mrs Boyd said.
"I've been made very welcomed by the Uniting Care Health staff and although there's a great deal to do I've got support from the management."
Mrs Boyd, who moved to the region from Wellington, New Zealand, a month ago, comes with significant management experience in managing private hospitals.
"In my previous position as general manager for Southern Cross Private Hospital in Wellington, I worked closely to develop relationships with local doctors and was able to significantly improve the hospital's culture," Mrs Boyd said.
Mrs Boyd steps into the role at a significant time, with the hospital preparing to transition its acute inpatient services to Hervey Bay.
"I am excited about leading the transition and building on the strong foundation of quality care and service that already exists."
She said the $96 million hospital will have all their staff fully trained when it admits its first patients on October 13.
Asked if there were opportunities for job seekers, Mrs Boyd said "I'm sure there will be potentially some new employment opportunities advertised in the coming weeks."
