New planning scheme finally adopted by council

FRASER Coast Council has adopted its new planning scheme in the first council meeting of the year.

The scheme will come into effect from next Tuesday and replaces four former planning schemes.

Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said the adoption of the new scheme could be a "game-changing moment".

The controversial scheme was handed up to the State Government last September for approval.

Cr O'Connell said the draft version of the scheme attracted about 350 submissions.

He said the council believed a number of developments were waiting to apply until after the scheme came into effect.

Details of the scheme will not be available until it comes into effect next week.
