A VISIT to the Fraser Coast by Channel Seven's Sunrise program last week was free publicity for the region, a Tourism Fraser Coast spokesman said.

Grant Denyer and the Sunrise weather team spent three days at locations around Hervey Bay and Fraser Island.

The weatherman tried flyboarding in the ocean in front of Aquavue and visited the Maheno wreck on Fraser Island.

Tourism Fraser Coast membership and marketing co-ordinator Tas Webber joined the team travelling the region and said the publicity was a donation from Sunrise.

"They wanted to show the region to Australia," he said.

"Not a single taxpayer dollar was spent on Sunrise."

Some local businesses donated accommodation and services to the crew.

Mr Webber said Sunrise contacted him and wanted to know what they could do in the area following the floods and tornado in the wake of ex-tropical cyclone Oswald.

"We put together an itinerary of things to do in Hervey Bay and Maryborough and they chose."

"They could have spent three weeks here with the activities we suggested."
