Patel charged with grievous bodily harm of Ian Vowles

FORMER Bundaberg surgeon Jayant Patel has been formally charged with grievously harming patient Ian Vowles.

Crown prosecutor David Meredith presented a grievous bodily harm indictment in Brisbane District Court on Tuesday morning.

Dr Patel is accused of unnecessarily removing the 65-year-old patient's colon while he was at Bundaberg Hospital.

The three-week trial is expected to begin in late September.
