Petition to save St Stephen’s grows longer

A PETITION to save Maryborough's St Stephen's Hospital has reached almost 7000 signatures, with nine days remaining before it is submitted to Anne Cross, the CEO of UnitingCare Queensland.

Petition co-ordinator Nan Ott of Tinana said the appeal currently had 6800 signatures, but she was confident many more would be added before the finishing date.

Mrs Ott has received treatment on several occasions herself at St Stephen's, which is run by UnitingCare, and said she hoped Maryborough wouldn't lose the facility.

"It would be a shame to see a building like that just shut down," Mrs Ott said.

Petitions were being circulated at more than 130 locations around Maryborough, as well as in outlying districts such as Tiaro, Bauple and Howard.
