REPLAY: Red City Roar v Sunshine Coast Phoenix Teal
While they face a mighty hurdle, shooting guard Jamaal Robateau believes Phoenix are playing their best basketball ahead of a club-first semi-final showdown.
The Phoenix men will take on competition heavyweights Redcity Roar in the Queensland State League semi-final this Friday, with the action to be livestreamed on this website.
It's the furthest a senior Phoenix squad have progressed on the state stage, with the women knocked out in the quarter-final round in 2018.
The men, who finished the regular season in fifth, achieved the feat after toppling Southern Districts Spartans 107-96 over the weekend.
While Roar have only lost one game this year, Robateau said the squad was more than up for the challenge.
"I think we're playing our best basketball in the post-season," he said.
"Everyone is playing well and last weekend was probably the most comfortable I've felt in defence with everyone in sync with each other and the rotations were near perfect.
"Hopefully, we can carry the momentum from last week into this week."
They went down in their previous encounter with Roar, but Robateau said the clash, in September, had garnered plenty of belief among Phoenix ranks.
"We lost but we were up at halftime by six or so in that game if I remember correctly and then the third quarter was back and forth and then we just died out in the fourth quarter," he said.
"Coming into that game I think everyone was a bit iffy because they were undefeated and have some big names on their team, they have pretty much got a full NBL starting five.
"But, then we came out and I think the boys realised that we can play with them.
"I would assume all the boys are coming into this game confident.
"I've heard a bit of chat around practice and people were saying they've got a good feeling about this weekend."
He said the Phoenix had been working hard on nailing their fourth quarter efforts of late.
If victorious in their semi-final on Friday the Phoenix will have to back up for the decider the next day on Saturday against either Ipswich Force or Brisbane Capitals.
The club's Division 2 QSL side, Phoenix Orange, have also progressed into the semi-finals and will take on Brisbane Capitals.
Meanwhile, USC Rip City will also feature in the QSL Division 2 men's and women's semis, facing Southern Districts Spartans and Logan Thunder respectively on Friday.
