Police taser man in front of children at school festival

POLICE were forced to use a taser charge on a man at a Sunshine Coast festival late yesterday.

The man had allegedly been threatening a popcorn vendor at the Suncoast Christan College at Woombye just before 5pm.

A witness said an argument between the man and the vendor had escalated into a fight before three people "tackled" the man to the ground.

The popcorn vendor was assaulted and another woman knocked to the ground, injuring her leg.

The man was escorted off the college grounds by a family member and the police were called.

The witness said the man allegedly then returned wielding a stick about the same time as police arrived.

Circumstances escalated and the taser was used before police took the man into custody.

The drama unfolded in front of dozens of shocked students.

Soon after hundreds of students and family members were forced to take shelter when a rainstorm swept in.

Rides were brought to a halt but teachers and 'Sparkles the Clown' managed to keep students and parents entertained with an impromptu show as the rain bucketed down.

The college festival, the major fundraiser for the Parents and Friends group for the year, managed to continue after the storm with a reduced program.
