Police wait on test results after shocking Glenella crash

POLICE are awaiting test results of a driver who rolled his car at Glenella, causing extensive damage to public infrastructure, at the weekend.

The driver escaped serious injury when his Toyota FJ Cruiser rolled off Glenella Connection Rd, near Edmund Casey Bridge, about 8am last Saturday.

The black car had been travelling north and was followed from Sarina by another motorist who reported their concerns to police, Forensic Crash Unit Sergeant Michael Hollett said.

Sgt Hollett said investigations suggested the man's car drifted off the road, hit a light pole and snapped the post of the bridge name sign.

The vehicle flipped and rolled, coming to rest on its roof off the bitumen.

The man was breath tested at hospital and a blood specimen taken, with investigators awaiting the results.

Sgt Hollett said the crash was concerning because of the time of day and initial investigation findings suggesting alcohol may have impaired the driver.

"It was early on a Saturday morning … when parents may be taking kids to sporting matches or their regular activities," he said.
