Remember to service your car before Christmas
THE RACQ has reminded motorists to service their cars before heading off on holiday road trips this Christmas.
RACQ spokeswoman Lauren Ritchie said spending a few dollars fixing any issues could prevent drivers spending their holidays stuck on the side of the road.
"A pre-holiday service should include a check of safety-related items, including brakes, steering and tyres," she said.
Ms Ritchie acknowledged that family budgets could be stretched in the lead-up to Christmas but said putting off a regular service was a false economy.
"Keeping your car running smoothly and identifying and rectifying any problems early could save motorists big money in the long run," she said.
Ms Ritchie said that during December and January last year, RACQ patrols rescued more than 170,000 members from the roadside.
She patrols were particularly busy during the holidays.
"But many of the breakdowns could have been avoided by regular car maintenance," Ms Ritchie said.
