REVEALED: Coast’s top wedding photographer
A SUNSHINE Coast wedding photographer who almost lost his life in a skydiving accident has been named the most popular in the region.
Ben Connolly was seriously injured when a regular skydiving photography job went wrong in 2002 and he crash landed at a Currimundi retirement village.
"I crash landed in there and broke my femur, broke my rips, collapsed lung … and then I was basically off work for about two years," he said.
Mr Connolly chose not to return to skydiving and instead turned his head to weddings so he could continue his photography passion.
The now award-winning photographer has "never looked back".
"Photographing weddings, you get to spend your day with someone else on their day," he said.
"The people that you interactive with on a daily basis are incredibly happy, incredibly loving people.
"It's just a really fun job to do."
Mr Connolly nabbed 80 per cent of the votes in the Sunshine Coast Daily's search for the region's best photographer.
But he said it was hard to name someone the "best" in a creative field.
"For all of those photographers who are out there that push themselves every weekend to photograph weddings, to level up their skills … so they can give their clients the best memories, I think all of those people are the best," he said.
Mr Connolly now mentors other photographers across the country and internationally, and is prepping to speak at a photography convention in Las Vegas.
"It's been a really nice evolution of starting out and spending some great moments with all the clients I've had and then being able to turn around and teach other photographers," he said.
