Rockliff slams Lions' outdated training base

AFL: Brisbane Lions captain Tom Rockliff has described the club's Gabba training base as below AFL standard and a hindrance to the club competing at the top level.

On Melbourne radio station RSN927, Rockliff said the Gabba facilities had not changed since 2000.

"Think about that - 16 years and the technology that's changed in that period,” he said.

"We're below ground the whole time. We don't have any sunlight in there.

"The gym only got a makeover because it flooded last year."We're battling a fair bit with the facility. It is always a challenge to compete at the highest level. I know it's not the be all and end all ... but the facility definitely helps.”

The AFL has committed $5 million to a new training and administration base near Brisbane Airport for the Lions, who have been chasing cash for the project over the past three years and are still negotiating with local, state and federal governments for funds.
