Roof on 25m heated pool to be finished by end of week
CHILDREN from the Hervey Bay Swimming Club will be pleased to learn their days of hauling tyres up hills could soon be replaced by diving back into the water.
The swimmers had to undergo some land-based training while the 25m heated pool at the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre had its new roof installed.
Swimming coach Caleb Ryan said the young swimmers were getting fitter pulling the huge tyres for the past four weeks, and they were all looking forward to being able to use the pool again.
Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said the roof should be finished by the end of the week.
"The wet weather last Thursday slowed progress temporarily," he said.
"We were hoping to have the pool open again in time for the show holiday long weekend.
"Unfortunately the rain put us behind.
"At this stage though, the project will still be completed by the end of May, weather permitting."
Cr O'Connell said the main frame structure has been erected and crews have started installing the roof sheeting.
