Sausage challenge to be hotly contested

IF YOU'VE got the guts to gobble six of Dan and Steph's spiciest sausage sandwiches in the quickest time, you'll walk away with $500 cold hard cash.

The celebrity couple are holding their inaugural annual chilli sausage eating competition this Saturday to raise funds for cystic fibrosis - a condition that affects one of their staff.

"It's for a good cause and it affects a friend so we'd like to help find a cure for it," Dan Mulheron said.

The competition is for anyone who loves sausages, with the ability to handle the intense 'chilli' heat.

"The chilli used in the sandwiches is the hottest thing any of us here have eaten," Dan said.

The Bhut Jolokia chilli comes from Gympie and the couple got them from a local farmer who was growing it and had no idea what to do with it.

"She offered it to us and the first time we tried it, we actually couldn't work for an hour because the heat was intense but now we have found a way to use it in our cooking and people love it," he said.

For the competition, contestants have to eat six of the sandwiches and wait for a minute to drink water. The quickest one to complete the task wins the cash.

"The contestants have to sign a waiver to say we are not responsible for any repercussions," the former MKR contestant joked.

The competition will be held on Saturday at 2pm at the park opposite EAT @ Dan & Steph's at 449 The Esplanade, Hervey Bay.
