Savour the delights at Relish Fest tomorrow
ABOUT 2500 food-lovers are expected to indulge in a day of culinary delight tomorrow as Maryborough puts its best foot forward in celebrating local talent.
Cr Darren Everard said the event would be a major attraction to those from outside the area and he was already excited at what the festivities would bring.
"Maryborough has got talent in the kitchens and every year at Relish is unique," he said.
This year's line-up will include a Food Lover's marquee which will feature cook-a-thons by local chefs.
Dan and Steph, Kingfisher Bay Resort and Fusion are all set to appear as well as Coast, the Lamington Hotel and the Federal Hotel.
Cr Everard said he would also be getting in on the act.
"Last year I did something with lamb and this year I may do Italian food in a wok," he said.
While the councillor suggested those going save up stomach space by not eating today, he was particularly happy about the tourism dollars coming in.
"Every dollar bought in passes through seven tills as I like to say," he said.
Relish is back-to-back with PubFest and those attending both were expected spend hundreds each.
"It's a hard one to quantify but the average person may spend around $250 at Relish and the trick is, if we put on a good show they'll come back," he said.
Cr said this would be an easy job thanks to the local heroes on display.
"We really want to put emphasis on our local chefs... this year we have locals talking about local produce," he said.
Tickets are $12 pre-purchased from Visitor Information Centres, or $15 at the gate.
