SCHOOL HOLS: What’s on this week for kids on the Coast

ZEN SELF PORTRAITS

When: Tuesday and Friday, between 10am and 2pm

Where: Gatakers Artspace, 311 Kent St, Maryborough.

What: Discover the experience of using music to create art! Let the music inspire you as you learn how to produce self-portraits in a variety of mediums.

Cost: $10 per person, ring to book on 4190 5723.

 

RADICAL REPTILES

When: Everyday until Saturday, all day viewings and shows on 10am, 11am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

Where: In front of Big W at Station Square Shopping Centre, 142 Lennox St, Maryborough.

What: Enjoy a free snakes, lizards and crocodile experience with Radical Reptiles. Live shows are at 10am, 11am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm every day until Saturday. Learn about safety, species information and conservation. If you miss a show, don't worry. The reptiles are available for viewings all day long and the handlers are up for a chat at any time during the day.

Cost: Free.

 

BACKYARD ADVENTURES

When: Today until Sunday January 31, between 10am and 4pm.

Where: Maryborough City Hall, Kent St

What: You'll never look at your backyard the same again after experiencing Backyard Adventure's amazing interactive exhibits. The exhibit is open daily until January 31.

Cost: Adults $12, children 3-16yrs $10, concession/senior $10 family (two adults and up to two children) $34.

 

CHECK OUT ART

 When: Everyday, between 10am and 4pm.

 Where: Gatakers Artspace, 311 Kent St, Maryborough.

 What: Have a wander through the gallery to check out the four art exhibitions on show at the moment, by Fraser Coast and Sunshine Coast based artists.

 Cost: Free.

 

DESIGN A BOOK MARK

When: Competition closes at close of business on Saturday, February 27.Where: Entries can be submitted at any Fraser Coast branch library.

What: Kids, why not test our your bookmark design and colouring skills for a chance to win $50? Bookmarks will be judged on originality, design and reproducibility. Winners from each category will be announced during March 2016. Each winning entry will be printed and distributed in all Fraser Coast Libraries. A $50 voucher will be awarded for all winning designs.

MAKE POP-UP CARDS

When: Everyday these school holidays, between 10am and 4pm.

Where: Fraser Coast Cultural Centre, 166 Old Maryborough Road, Pialba.

What: Kids can make whale and dugong pop up cards with help of Discovery Sphere staff. Paper, pencils and craft materials are provided.

Cost: Free.

 

DISCOVER AT SPHERE

When: Everyday these school holidays, between 10am and 4pm

Where: Fraser Coast Cultural Centre Discovery Sphere, 166 Old Maryborough Road, Pialba.

What: Learn about the majestic Humpback Whale, the Fraser Coast environment and Butchulla culture. Uncover rare and endangered species and meet Hervey the Whale. Also visit to enter in for a chance to win a two adult and two children family pass to go on a whale cruise this upcoming whale season.

Cost: $5.50 adult, $4.50 child aged between 5 and 12 years, children 4 years and under are free.

 

MARYBOROUGH MARKETS

When: Every Thursday from 8am.

Where: Corner of Lennox and Kent Sts, Maryborough.

What: Maryborough's city centre undergoes an amazing transformation into a colourful outdoor heritage bazaar, with the markets returned to Maryborough's CBD streets. Join a guided Heritage Walk Tour from outside the City Hall at 9am or ride on a replica steam engine through nearby Queens Park.

Cost: Free.

 

PET A NATIVE ANIMAL

When: Everyday, between 10am and 5pm.

Where: Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary, 31 Mungar Road, Maryborough.

What: Watch the kangaroos, wallabies and emus be fed at 2pm each day. Pet a snake or dingo.

Cost: Entry is $10 adults, $7.50 children aged between three and twelve, family passes from $30, disability and pension $8.50, snake experience is $5, dingo experience is $10.

 

ROCK OFF AUSTRALIA DAY PARTY

When: Australia Day, Tuesday January 26.

Where: 184 Boat Harbour Dr, Pialba.

What: Enjoy a pie eating competition, thong throw challenge, waterslide and jumping castle, sausage sizzle, competition and giveaways.
