SPEED A FACTOR: Police share insight into horror crash
POLICE have confirmed speed was a factor in the fatal crash which took the life of Raymond Burke on Tuesday evening.
Wide Bay Forensic Crash Unit officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Steve Webb said a car was travelling north on Pialba-Burrum Heads Rd when Mr Burke was attempting to turn from the driveway of the Craignish Country Club.
"The deceased driver came out of the driveway and stopped," he said.
"He moved forward slightly and stopped when he saw the vehicle approaching."
Snr Sgt Webb said Mr Burke's car had not moved out of the merging lane.
The driver of the other car is in a serious but stable condition in Hervey Bay Hospital.
The crash occurred just days after police launched the annual Christmas road safety campaign.
"Subsequently we have a family that have lost a loved one ten days before Christmas," he said.
He reminded people to ensure they obeyed the Fatal Five.
