Speed limits to be reviewed on three Fraser Coast roads

SPEED limits on three Fraser Coast roads will be reviewed in the coming months to determine whether they should be raised, lowered or kept the same.

The Bruce Hwy at Tiaro, Maryborough-Hervey Bay Rd from Booral Rd to Pialba-Burrum Heads Rd and Pialba-Burrum Heads Rd from Craignish to Hervey Bay Rd made the list of 100 priority roads to be reviewed.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said the roads were prioritised based on frequency of public nomination, crash data, local knowledge and recent maintenance and upgrades.

He said safety engineers would conduct inspections to determine what changes needed to be made to improve safety.

The speed limit reviews will be completed by mid-2014 and the results will be published on the Transport and Main Roads website when available.

Mr Emerson said the priority list of 68 state-controlled and 32 local roads was compiled following more than 3300 submissions.

"On almost 70 roads the majority of responses called for an increase in speed limits," he said.

Mr Emerson said each road would be reviewed in line with Queensland's speed limit setting guidelines with consideration given to traffic, pedestrians and infrastructure.

"The review aims to simplify the speed limit setting process and apply consistent speed limits across Queensland," he said.
