Spend your Australia Day on the water at Burrum River
GET on top of your Australia Day by attending a beginners kayaking day on the Burrum River.
The popular event, organised Friends of the Burrum River System Group, kicks off at 8am at Pacific Haven.
Group president Tim Thorton said there will be experienced paddlers on the day to assist beginners and to give basic instructions.
"Some are more experienced than others, but we are all learners, so don't be embarrassed or too shy to participate, anyone who wants to join us is welcome," Mr Thornton said.
"It will be low tide at about 8am and the sand banks will be exposed, making it easy to get in and out of your kayak or canoe.
"The paddle will conclude when the incoming tide gets going and when the sausage sizzle starts."
Mr Thornton said they will provide some kayaks and canoes and there will be some second-hand ones for sale.
The beginners kayaking day starts at 8am on Saturday, January 26 at the boat ramp at the end of Walls Camp Rd, Pacific Haven.
Costs $5, which includes a sausage sizzle and soft drink.
