Support Adani mega mine by signing a card

A POSTCARD with a smiling tradie from Paget saying "Mr Adani, we are ready to get working!" is the message being used to show the mining giant that Mackay supports the Carmichael project.

Member for Dawson George Christensen has launched a postcard campaign in a bid to make Mackay the resource and labour hub for Adani's mega mine and Abbot Point expansion.

"The community has made it clear to me that they support the project and want to see the local area capture the lion's share of the benefits and the postcard conveys that message to the proponents of the mine," Mr Christensen said.

Mr Christensen described the wider Mackay region as being in a prime position to support the major coal development.

"We are the Silicon Valley of the mining service sector. We already have all the expertise and technology in Paget workshops on track and ready to work.

"We also have a workforce that has the skills and experience in the mining sector who are available to work. Those two things combined means we are well suited for Adani's projects."

A decision on the Abbot Point port expansion will be handed down in a week's time, and the decision for approval for the whole mine will be announced within a month, Mr Christensen said.

The postcards are being delivered to letterboxes around the region next week, and will also be inserted in tomorrow's Daily Mercury.
