Tenders called to build multi-million dollar Burrum ramp

TENDERS have been called to build the long-awaited Burrum Heads boat ramp.

Maryborough MP Bruce Saunders said 15 direct jobs would be involved during the construction phase.

"Burrum Heads continues to be a popular coastal fishing village so the addition of a new ramp, which will provide safe access to surrounding waterways and reduce congestion at other ramps, is a great outcome for the community and visitors," he said.

Main Roads and Ports Minister Mark Bailey described the tender call as a "major milestone".

"The need for a safe, all-tide boat ramp with adequate parking facilities has been strongly promoted by the local community for more than 20 years," he said.

"This project will deliver a new two-lane boat ramp, rock groyne and parking facility, along with stormwater drainage improvements" Minister Bailey continued

The State Government has allocated $3.5 million to the project with the Fraser Coast Regional Council paying $1.5 million.

Tenders will close on March 7 and work is expected to start in April.
