Gallipoli to Armistice memorial huge drawcard for region

SIMPLY stunning.

That was my reaction to seeing the graphic design of the Gallipoli to Armistice memorial planned for Maryborough's Queens Park to complement the Duncan Chapman statue.

The military trail, which would be further enhanced if the Fraser Coast can secure the Tobruk wreck, will be a major drawcard for tourists.

And we need more drawcards.

The latest figures from the region's tourism body, Fraser Coast Opportunities, show that almost as many tourists as the previous financial year are visiting the region.

The problem is they are not spending as much money. We are down a whopping 21% on expenditure compared to the previous financial year.

The more we have for people to do and see in this region, the more money will be spent.

If people can spend a few days in Maryborough exploring our heritage, visiting our museums and seeing our stunning military trail when it all comes to fruition, that will also help.

Fraser Island is also a major drawcard, along with whale watching and the safest beaches in Queensland.
