Airport jet fuel tank to be removed after safety concerns
A REDUNDANT jet fuel tank at the Maryborough Airport is presenting a safety hazard with council officers concerned about it 'popping'.
The tank has a holding capacity of 37,500 litres and is demand for fuel is "very low".
At their Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday in Hervey Bay councillors were asked to make a decision on the future of fuel at the airport.
If jet fuel is re-introduced at the airport on-site daily management and ongoing testing is required.
That is expected to cost about $10,000 each year.
The private owner of a separate AVGAS fuelling facility has also been given an opportunity by councillors to upgrade their site.
Councillors unanimously endorsed a plan to remove the redundant jet-fuel tank.
