Tinana pub reopens
IT'S been a long time between drinks at Tinana's Riverview Hotel.
Regulars were left high and dry in March after the previous publican called last shout, but the champagne corks will be popping on Saturday when the bar throws open its doors under new ownership.
Lessee Heather Rome said she caught a glimpse of the hotel when driving up to Cairns for a job, and developed a dream of bringing it back to its former glory.
“I saw it as I drove past and thought it had a lot of potential, and it just played on my mind,” Miss Rome said.
“I was up in Cairns managing a hotel so when I had the opportunity to take on the lease here, I grabbed it.
“The pub has been here for so long, and it's got so much potential to be a really cosy, welcoming place.”
She moved to Maryborough to take over the lease two weeks ago and was already hard at work getting the hotel and motel ready for guests.
“I've bought the paint and curtains to redecorate the rooms,” Miss Rome said.
“It's going to be a bright and cheerful place with good quality service.”
With a background in motel management and a knack for bar work, Miss Rome said she was ready to take on all the challenges of running a pub and motel single-handedly.
“I'm going to open the doors and see what people want,” she said.
“We'll be taking feedback from the locals on what they want to see here.”
Her number one priority was getting the bar up and running again, but there are also plans afoot to give Tinana residents a gourmet dining experience.
“I'm hiring a very experienced chef to start doing meals again — not just a cook,” Miss Rome said.
“We are looking at offering a standard menu for normal pub fare, then a premium menu for something special.
“Once we are up and running, we will definitely be doing functions.”
The hotel will be open from 10am on Saturday.
