Two tenders to refurbish Bay pool released a second time

TWO tenders to refurbish the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre will be released for a second time on Saturday, May 4.

One tender is for work on the entry, kiosk and administration area and the second is for the refurbishment of the 50m pool and children's play area, Fraser Coast Council sport, recreation, open space and events portfolio councillor Darren Everard said.

"We will take the opportunity to undertake a number of smaller maintenance projects at the same time while the pool is empty," he said.

"The work will include painting and tidy up of the children's play area as well as resurfacing the 50m pool.

"It is anticipated that the work will be finished and the pools ready to reopen for summer."

This is the second time the council has released the project for tender.

"Council did not receive a response when the tender was released as one project," Cr Everard said.

"So the tender has been split into two parts, one for the pool and one for the building refurbishments.

"Meanwhile, work on installing a roof over the 25m heated pool at the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre is well under way.

"It is expected that, weather permitting, the pool should be reopened for use by mid to late May."
