U12 Fraser Flames to finish the season minus gun striker

BIG LOSS: Fraser Flames will miss attacking superstar Zack Turner to state commitments but under-12s coach Navi Bali is confident his team will be able to finish on a high.

Turner scored 40 goals in 19 games for the Flames, an attacking pedigree the side which Bali said he inherited, must overcome if they are to beat Sunbury Blues, who finished third on the table and beat KSS Jets Spitfires last week.

"I think they'll be confident,” Bali said. "Sunbury has had some great results, and we've been beaten by teams outside the top four so they'll have to be ready to play.

"We've played well in the few games without him this season and we'll just have to do that again if we want to win.”

While it would be nice to finish a minor premiership-winning season with a grand final victory, Bali said it'd still be remembered as an extremely positive one for Flames.

In his first year as coach, Bali said the camaraderie between players and parents had extended beyond football.

"It's been awesome, they're a lovely bunch of lads. I inherited a team with a bunch of great players,” Bali said.

"They're catching up after football and that's probably the most rewarding part of being a coach.”

The grand final will kick-off at 8.30am on field four.
