Voice star's voice echoes in Maryborough
A TALENTED singer songwriter starring on Channel 9's The Voice has a Maryborough connection - his grandparents Frank and Moya Howell were prominent citizens, running the local pool back in the 70s.
Jason Howell took the singing competition by storm when he performed a soul version of I'm Sexy and I Know It by Red Foo.
Given the choice of Delta Goodrem, Jessie J, Ricky Martin and Benji and Joel Madden, Jason decided on Team Madden.
Jason had his first battle round against Nathan Hawes earlier this week, but before the Maddens could decide who would go through to the next round, Jessie J indicated her desire to take the singer the Maddens did not choose.
The Maddens went with Nathan and Jason joined Jessie's team.
Posting on radio station Mix Fraser Coast's Facebook page, Jason's aunt, also from Maryborough but now living in Brisbane, Jennifer Howell said she was proud of her talented nephew.
Appearing on Channel 9's Today program, Jason said after spending time with Nathan he didn't want the talented young singer to be sent home and he didn't want to be out of the competition either, so being chosen by Jessie J had been the best possible outcome.
"It's an awesome opportunity to actually be able to kind of move between two teams and get to obviously work with two sets of unbelievable coaches," he said
"I came on to the show with the hope that obviously you learn and develop and with someone like Jessie J, like you said, in that she is brutal and she's quite critical but honest," he said.
