Volunteers Expo planned for May to attract more helpers

A DRAMATIC drop in the number of volunteers has reduced the ability of many local organisations to serve the community, councillor Rolf Light says.

"To help these groups attract volunteers, council will hold the Volunteers Expo," he said.

"Groups will be able to showcase themselves and potential volunteers will be able to see what groups are available.

"People will also be able to see the vast array of services which are available on the Fraser Coast, especially to help in times of natural disasters."

Up to 50 organisations, including the SES, Rural Fires, Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Surf Life Saving, Hospital Auxiliary, Salvation Army, Coast Guard, Volunteer Marine Rescue and Council Community Environment Program, are expected at the expo.

The expo will be held from 10am to 6pm at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough on Thursday, May 14.
