ABOUT 200 people have gathered at Memorial Park in Tinana for the Anzac dawn service.

People packed around the small cenotaph for the moving ceremony to commemorate those who have fallen.

"That's where he got shot and taken prisoner of war," Mr Oliver said.

"He hadn't been prisoner, he would have been dead."

Mr Oliver's father's story was a focus of the service which included the a catafalque party made up the Maryborough air force cadets.

In a moving display, students from Tinana State School read out the names of every fallen soldier on the Tinana honour roll.
