What to expect from water police during Christmas break

WATER police crews will be ramping up during the school holiday period as holidaymakers head out onto the water.

Hervey Bay Water Police Senior Constable Jo Moran said extra patrols would be out on the waters of the Fraser Coast to ensure boaties have all the right safety gear on board and to conduct drink and drug testing.

"The holiday season is about having fun on the water and the best way to ensure that is to continue to check weather and tides and to ensure you have all the right safety gear on board," Const Moran said.

During the school holidays water police throughout the state will be running extra patrols.

Water Police are warning if you're drinking or taking drugs while out on the water you will be caught.
