White Christmas and IVF are part of Dan and Steph's plans
A WHITE Christmas in the US, a new car and another crack at IVF are all on the cards for My Kitchen Rules winners Dan and Steph Mulheron.
The Hervey Bay couple is $250,000 richer after winning Sunday's grand final by just two points over Sunshine Coast siblings Jake and Elle Harrison.
They are the toast of the Fraser Coast region and Mayor Gerard O'Connell said the council was organising to present them with the keys to the city and a mayoral reception.
He had already sent congratulations to their emails and said they were terrific ambassadors for the region.
Once the dust settles, Dan said he and Steph planned to "take it all in at home" before ticking a few things off their bucket list.
One of those is a trip to the US.
"We'll definitely go to America for Christmas this year," he said.
"Hopefully there will be a bit of snow around. It's one thing we've always wanted to do."
Another is a new car for Dan.
"I've been driving around in a 1998 Ford Festiva for about eight years," he said.
"The rego's due in about four weeks. I'd love a new car. I've never had a new car; Steph's always had the great car.
"I might go with a workman ute so we can go to Fraser (Island) as well."
And of course there's the couple's biggest dream: starting a family.
"When she feels it's the right time we'll go back to the IVF," he said.
"Once we know what we want to do and we're established we'll look into it.
"We can't do it when there are 100,000 things going on."
The Mulherons wanted to thank their fans, particularly their local supporters in Hervey Bay, for backing them "from day one".
"They didn't jump on board when we started doing well," he said.
"They believed in us right from the word go. We can't thank them enough. If they see us out and about and if they want to ask us about the show, then feel free."
In the long term, Dan said the couple would consider a new house and a possible move to a larger city to set up a gourmet sausage shop.
"I think we will move, but not straight away," he said.
"We'll see where it takes us, Sydney or Brisbane maybe."
They paid tribute to one of their favourite local delicacies, Hervey Bay scallops, in their flawless ceviche with corn salsa, the first dish they presented to the judges in their five-course grand final menu.
"They represent where we're from, so we thought 'why not?'," Dan said.
He said he hoped local suppliers see an increase in demand.
"They're the only scallop that doesn't have a roe," he said.
"The roe grows off the meat, and they're not a massive scallop. They're beautiful and sweet."
