IT'S not the usual sort of souvenir tourists bring home from their travels overseas but Skye Davies has tattoos from the places she's visited.

She said in Thailand, she got an elephant tattoo and in Hawaii in November, she added an aloha tattoo.

"Shortly after I got this tattoo I got proposed to!" Ms Davies said.

"So this tattoo not only means a trip to Hawaii but it signifies when we got engaged and aloha also means love."

The Chronicle asked its Facebook followers to submit photos of their tattoos and the stories behind them and was inundated with almost 80 snaps.

Show us your tatts! Have you got a piece of ink you're proud of? We'd love to see it and know the story behind it. If you've got a pic of a tattoo you'd like to share post it below and tell us why you got it.

Sara Laycock's husband, whose nickname is Moose, went to Brett at Vision Skin Tattoo to get a big tattoo of a moose on his back to cover up two tattoos on each shoulder.

Tattoos in memory of loved ones, of family members still living, of memorable words and of things that people just simply like are other reasons people have given for getting tattoos.
